In our previous BLOG, the journey of exploring a few of the numerous Bead Stitches available began with Peyote, Square and Brick stitches. In this BLOG, we will continue our expedition and examine two more popular Bead Weaving Techniques: Right-Angle Weave (so much to discover with this stitch!) and the essential Ladder Stitch. Please read on, and we hope you are inspired to try your hand at a new stitch! We anticipate that there will be at least one new stitch technique that will draw you in and tempt you to make your own unique creation! Here we go!

#1 RIGHT-ANGLE WEAVE (RAW)

Basic right angle weave is a must-learn for any new Bead Weaver. This is one of the most versatile and useful bead-weaving stitches ever created. Using a figure eight stitching pattern, groups of beads are gathered together to form shared rows that can be increased and embellished in every direction with ease. The unique shape of a basic right angle weave unit allows for endless possibilities in three-dimensional beadwork for necklaces, bracelets and pendants. Although the technique is simple, it can be tricky to learn at first. The number of units in the first row will determine the direction that your thread moves for all subsequent rows. After you’ve used the Right Angle Weave a few times, it becomes second nature. When you’re first learning, it’s a good idea to look over each row before beginning a new one, to check for missed stitches and out of place beads. Take a look at some of the fabulous designs you can make using the RAW stitch!

#2 The Ladder Stitch

The Ladder Stitch is another ‘Must Learn’ for new Beaders. It can be used to create the first row for many stitches, including Brickstitch and Herringbone as well as entirely on its own to be worked to whatever length you like. There are a number of variations on how to create the ''ladder,'' including the single-needle, single-thread method or what is also referred to as the traditional ladder. It’s easy, it’s fun, and importantly this stitch is extremely useful. Here’s a peek at just a sampling of designs you can make using or incorporating the Ladder Stitch!

This is just a sampling of the volumes and variations of Bead Weaving Stitches. For added creativity, designs can incorporate a number of stitch types for stunning results. In a future Blog, we will introduce other popular stitch techniques. For our next Blog we’re onto another interesting topic that will provide you with great information and hopefully inspire you!
